"Colour is a sensation..."
For artist and founder Sofia, introducing the therapeutic effects of colour in the built environment is at the heart of the Muralhome ethos. Scientific research has proven that colour not only affects the proportions, brightness and function of a room, it also affects the mood of its inhabitants. This is because colour and light are two natural factors that influence the production of hormones, and therefore influence ones emotional disposition and health in general. The stimulation that colour provides to the senses in the natural environment plays a vital role in keeping the mind and body functioning optimally; in the absence of such stimulation in the built environment, our well-being is compromised.
"As a species, we spend more time indoors than ever before",
"The impact of colour in our living environment can be used to enhance our well-being at a physiological level, and with tangible results"
Sofia specialises in fine arts, and has nurtured her love for colour and spacial design through various avenues.
"After graduating as a painter, I spent a year in Florence, Italy, studying European Art & Design. I think this time had a profound impact on me as an artist. I went on to work for a multinational paints manufacturer (makers of Dulux). There I was designated to train the team of Colour Consultants on how to best use the science of Colour Theory, to create aesthetically pleasing and specialised colour schemes for interiors and exteriors. While exploring wall decoration, I discovered the transformative qualities of trompe l'oeil, murals and embellishment through patterns in living and work spaces."
That was the beginning of an exciting journey in decorating with paint, which led to the conception of Muralhome, a nascent company with plenty of promise. Sofia is presently based in London, where she carries out her studio practice and mural commissions. She draws inspiration from the natural environment, animals and traditional art from the Indian subcontinent. Sofie has experience working as a consultant to a private interior decorating company, as well as collaborating with other mural artists to create a portfolio that is diverse in expertise and vision.
